Outdoor Security Camera and Preventing Intrusion

These days, many people are required to travel out of town for days or sometimes weeks at a time.  Installing an outdoor security camera is a great way for them to get the peace of mind, knowing that their house is relatively secure while they are gone.

When a house is burglarized, the thief usually watches the house for some time before the crime. They are looking for daily patterns that they can schedule their crime to.  When the burglar sees that the occupant is not home, he knows it is time to strike.  However, in his analysis, if he notices an outdoor security camera, the odds are much higher that he will bypass the house in favor of one that is not protected by any outdoor surveillance cameras.

The point here is, you can make your house extremely unattractive to would-be thieves if you install an outdoor security camera.  The range of protection supplied by these camera systems varies.  On the low end, you might just have a couple of fake security cameras set up to scare thieves away.  On the other hand, you can go extremely high-tech and have your system connected to the law enforcement network.  In this case, the police would be notified immediately if the camera system is triggered.

Another possible step to take in the setup of this system is to install and attach motion detectors to the outdoor camera security system.  They could be used to turn on bright lights or even a siren when motion is detected, hopefully scaring off any intruder.

One of the hardest choices to make in setting up an outdoor home security camera system is whether or not the cameras should be hidden.   If they are hidden, the odds are greater that the criminal will be caught and sent to prison because you have the recording as proof of his wrongdoing.  If the cameras are place in spots that are obvious and you use motion detectors, you might not catch the criminal.  However, the property will stay safe and all of the household occupants will stay safe from harm.
