Going Camping? Consider Bringing Along a Gas Lantern
Gas lanterns have been around for many years and they still remain popular with campers everywhere. However, battery powered lanterns are on the rise, and in this article I will be weighing the advantages the gas lantern has over its battery powered counterpart.
Quality of Light
Nothing beats gas when it comes to brightness or power. One simple lantern is able to illuminate almost an entire campsite. That’s more than enough light for your late night card games with the family. The light is also might brighter than the average battery lantern, so full power is probably not a good idea unless you fancy going blind (look on the bright side (hehe), at least going blind would be an excuse to get that dog you have always wanted).
Longevity
Gas is also superior to batteries in longevity as well. One cylinder of propane is more than enough fuel to outlast two sets of batteries on most battery lanterns. It’s funny how old technology is still superior to new tech in some cases. This isn’t looking good for battery powered lanterns.
Cost
Yep, gas lanterns are also cheaper to maintain than battery powered varieties. One cylinder of propane will only run you a couple bucks and to boot, it lasts longer than multiple sets of batteries. I suppose I should say that one set of batteries you would use to power a typical battery lantern actually would cost more than a tank of propane. So, you are choosing between a cheap power source that will last a long time over an expensive power source that won’t last as long. As far as upkeep costs, gas is definitely in the lead. As far as the actual price to buy the lantern, I think gas powered lanterns are a little more expensive than battery powered ones. Some research on the individual’s part is required in this matter.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a nice lantern for your outdoor adventures, I would really consider purchasing a sturdy gas lantern. I am positive you will not regret it.
