Cons of 2 Man Tents

When camping, hiking, or backpacking, choosing a tent is a very important decision.  Two man tents offer many benefits but they also have their drawbacks.  The first thing you’re likely to consider when choosing a tent is what size of tent to buy. Two man tents are fairly small and don’t offer a lot of space.  They are designed for practicality, and not for comfort.  You’re likely going to sacrifice headroom and space for extra supplies with a two man tent.

A larger tent affords you the opportunity to bring along the creature comforts of home, such as an air mattress or additional lighting.  Some tends designed for six or more people even offer the luxury of a designated room to serve as a kitchen.  If you’re camping in an open area for a long period time a large tent is ideal.  Some of the more expensive large tent models include electric powered air conditioning units.

Two man tents tend to heat quickly and retain heat very well.  This can be a good thing in frigid climates. But if you’re planning on backpacking through Florida or California in the midst of summer, you’re not going to want the extra heat.  With excess heat comes excess sweating and more chances for unpleasant body odor, especially on longer camping trips, which can make your experience that much more unpleasant.  A larger tent is much more likely to remain cool.

Two man tents are generally light, but sometimes their lightweight comes at the expense of durability.  Larger tents tent to hold up better to the elements because they are constructed using sturdier materials.  If you are camping with a large group of people, it may actually be easier to carry a larger tent that can be broken down and the weight can be distributed evenly among those traveling in your group.
