Energy Saving Tips In The Home
In these days of rising energy costs we are all looking for ways to improve the energy usage in our homes and to cut down on the amount of heat that we waste during the year. Here are some tips as to how you can play your part in lowering your energy usage and also help to improve your living environment.
One way to save quite a bit of home energy over time is to lower the setting of your central heating thermostat. Most homes ill be quite comfortable if the heating is set at 20 degrees and in the bedrooms you could lower it to an even more comfortable 18 degrees, given that you will be warm in bed most of the time.
Difficulties can arise depending on the location of the thermostats in your home. If your thermostat is located in a hallway which is cold, then the heating will not cut out until the hallway reaches 20 degrees. You might find that other rooms in the home are then warmer than necessary. If this is the case then you could consider cutting the thermostat for the entire home to 18 degrees and experimenting until you get a comfortable balance.
If you have not installed double glazed energy efficient windows and doors in your home already, now would be a good time to consider doing so. A double or triple glazed uPVC window is many times more energy efficient than a single glazed equivalent window unit.  Many homeowners stall at the prospect of changing windows because of what they think might be very high uPVC window prices, but if they shopped around they might get a surprise as to how competitive the window market has become. You should take into account that properly insulated windows and doors will save you a lot of money on heating oil and cooling costs over the coming years.
