DIY: A New Kitchen!

Most people will be quick to say that the kitchen is the heart of any home. It is the gathering place, a destination for learning, love and nourishment. For the chef at home, the kitchen becomes her domain and she often spends the majority of her at home time in the kitchen. Because so much time is spent in the kitchen it is very important that the kitchen be comfortable, practical and an enjoyable place for all.

Many people do not have a lot of extra cash to use for making  kitchens and other living spaces more enjoyable. One way to do so, however, is to put your creativity to use and have some  fun with homemade redecorating.  A simple addition of house plants or homemade wall décor can make an old kitchen feel like new.  Try pressing leaves, pine needles or flowers and then framing them for an earthy natural look. If you have a collection of your grandmothers old recipes, consider framing them and putting them up with family photos to celebrate your family history. Antique kitchen utensils and old milk cans can give a kitchen a wonderful country feel.  If you need more ideas, check out different home decor sites online or look through some arts and craft or home decor magazines; they are usually full of great, inexpensive ideas.

DIY kitchen curtains are another way to jazz up your kitchen. Go to your local fabric store and pick your most favorite fabric. With only the most basic of sewing skills you can make your own DIY kitchen curtains from scratch, ones especially designed so that they fit perfectly with your windows and the style of your kitchen. So whether it is homemade wall decor, or homemade curtains or an easy new piece of personalized art, making an old kitchen new again can be fun easy and inexpensive!
