Increase Your Efficiency By Medical Coding From Home
My family has been involved in the medical billing field for over 20 years. And the industry has been very good to us, and provided a steady income for the majority of my childhood. However, in recent years, my mother has made a switch in her work that allows her to make more money and be more efficient doing her job; she now does her medical coding and billing from home. So instead of stretching 2 hours of work into an 8 hour day, she finishes in 2 hours and has more free time to do other things.
I’ll preface this by saying my mother has extensive experience and has built a reputation as someone that is fast, efficient, and works well with others. And, the entire team comes into the office once a week for their staff meetings and performance reports to make sure everything is on track. But the company understands that once a person gains the knowledge and experience to medical bill, there really isn’t a reason to have them in the office sucking up company resources.
I know this all sounds great, but there are some downsides to working from home. The first thing is that you need to be disciplined. You need to sit down and code for two hours straight and just get the job done. This, as you probably know, is easier said than done, because when you work from home, you have to deal with all types of distractions.
That’s why it’s important to let your family know your work schedule so that you can limit your chances of being interrupted while you’re working at home. And send this list to your manager and staff team, so that they know when you’re most likely to respond to calls and emails.
And most importantly, when you finish your work, step away from the computer. It’s easy to get lost in your work and up putting in more hours working from home than you would in the office. You need some type of life balance though, so step away once you have finished your work.
