Getting the Right Type of Dog Gate

Do you have a pet dog in your home? If you answered yes, then most probably you have witnessed your pet going around and around in your house, searching for a spot where it could sleep or worse, dispose its waste. And most probably you have caught it red handed doing its job inside one of your carpeted rooms. If you would not like to see the same thing again, and if you want to limit your dog’s ‘exploration’ of the house without taking away too much of its freedom, then you might want to get dog gates for the home. These are great tools in keeping your pet in certain areas of your house. Aside from avoiding getting your rugs and carpets soiled, you are sure that your pet would not get into any sort of accident without you immediately knowing.

There are different designs of dog gates for the home, but you could narrow them down to three types. One type is the hardware attached gate. These use screws in their installation to a wall or a doorway. Because of this make, they are not that easy to tip over, which makes them really secure and safe. This type of gate can be made from either wood or stainless steel.

Another type is the pressure-mounted gate. These ones are installed with ‘pressure’ between walls or between a stair post and a wall, and are great for the bottom of the stairs, hallways and doorways. This type though has a setback; the horizontal bar situated at its bottom could cause occasional trips. Because of this, the pressure-mounted gate is not recommended for use on the top of the stairs.

The last type of gate is the freestanding one. Again, you could use this in hallways and in doorways. This type does not need any hardware in its installation, but you might want to consider not using it if you have rather large dogs in the house. If you do have tall or rather large pet canines, then the best gate that you could use is the hardware-mounted stainless steel one. Pressure-mounted and freestanding gates could be easily tipped over by your dog, something that it could not achieve with the suggested style and type of gate.
