Fun Halloween Outfits

Though the idea of Halloween is rooted in the supernatural and is often paired with horror movies and ideas of the dead, for children the holiday loses its creepiness and becomes a sugar-fueled night of fun. When else can kids of all ages dress up as whatever they want to be, run off their energy by exploring their neighborhood, and be rewarded at the end of the night with a sack full of treats and sweets?

Even the adults can enjoy decorating their houses with spiderwebs and ghosts, socializing with the other parents, and basking in the excitement buzzing all around them. There’s so much to enjoy about Halloween, but the costumes are what make the holiday truly special.

Anyone out on Halloween could see swarms of princesses, ghosts, witches, vampires, and a flock of other popular costumes. This year, a female pirate costume, such as the sexy tavern wench costume, is sure to be a huge hit. Some are very elaborate, including face paint, props, and maybe even a wig as accessories to the outfit. A witch simply must have a broom, and a princess without a crown would be very sad indeed. A vampire cannot be thrilling without a pair of plastic chompers adorned with some fake blood splashed on a pale face.

Other costume ideas are much simpler yet just as creative. Shortness of time or money is no longer an excuse to throw on a sheet and cut out eye holes. A good substitute could be dressing your child (or yourself!) up as a Lego block. Simply tape solid wrapping paper around a large cardboard box with the top and bottom removed, tape two pieces of string to both sides to hold it up by the shoulders, and glue six plastic cups matching the color of the wrapping paper to the front of the box in the pattern of the prongs on a Lego.

The time, effort, or money going into the costume isn’t very important. If the outcome looks good and makes its wearer happy then nothing else matters. As any child could tell you, all that matters is they have fun and get a bag full to the brim with delicious sweets!
