Children’s Clothing Organizers

My kids go outside all the time, even in winter, and to keep them warm I have a lot of layers I insist they wear. But this causes a couple problems for me. I have to make sure they wear everything I want them to, and I have to wash everything fairly regularly. It used to be a lot of management to do that for me.

One day I decided to see if I could make some sort of system where the kids could be trusted to make sure they take care of everything instead. I wanted to make some kind of system that they could be trusted to follow. Here’s a couple ways I went about doing this.

They have a tendency to throw their hats and gloves on the ground when they come into the house. No problem. Instead of just throwing them down, I got a couple freezer baskets that I was no longer using and set them by the back door. They are basically just wire baskets, and they gave the kids a perfect place to throw their things into until they need them again. Problem one averted.

For their coats and sweatpants, we needed something a little bigger. I decided I’d do a little remodeling then. I got some mudroom lockers installed in the back hallway, by the door, and told them that this was where their coats would be kept from now on. They were to come in, hang things up, and go about their business.

And it actually worked! Now they can be trusted to wear what they need to wear and put them away, mostly without my supervision! It has made things much easier on me, which alone makes it all worthwhile. If you are getting tired of picking up after your kids, I suggest thinking like them, and seeing if there’s a way to cut back on the work you have to do instead. Good luck!
