Tips For Installing Solar Lights

Solar lighting can be beautiful, especially if it is designed properly around the garden. Outdoor solar lights are generally used for safety, but they need to be in an area where the sun is shining. These lights are perfect for tidy garden areas because there is no need for ugly wires on the walls or trees. Listed below are some helpful tips when laying out a lighting system for your garden.

Make a blueprint of your property by sketching the garden on paper. You do not need exact proportions, but it is good to have a rough estimate of any trees, bushes, or other objects in the yard. You should include the gardening areas, walking paths, driveways, and main house. This drawing will help you to get a good idea of where you want to place the solar powered lights.

Use a yellow pencil to color the areas where you want to install lighting. This may include the wall, gate, front of the house, etc. Then visit each of these areas to make sure it receives adequate sunlight during the day. If there is not enough sun, the solar lights will not be able to charge properly. Take note about the areas that receive the sun all year around. Even if there is adequate sun in the summer, the area may not receive light in the winter when the sun is at a different angle. As a result the solar lights will not work because there is no way for them to recharge.

If you are living in an area where there is minimal sun, choose solar lighting that is especially made for cloudy conditions. LED lights are the best choice because they use very little energy and can be powered for a long time without draining the battery. LED lights also last much longer before needing to get replaced.
