Using The Bumbo Baby Seat With Care

The Bumbo baby seat has become very popular amongst parents.  It comes with so many recommendations.  While it is  neat little seat–and convenient for parents–it is important that parents understand some caution they should exercise when having their baby sit in it.

Don’t Use It Too Early

It is highly advisable not to use the bumbo baby sitter seat before your baby is able to hold his/her own head up.  Prior to that, you should always support your baby’s head and neck to avoid temporary or even permanent neck damage.

Don’t Use It Too Often

The Bumbo is a convenient device to sit your baby in, as it leaves you hands free and able to interact differently with your baby.  However, used to often, it can actually delay your baby’s ability to sit upright on his/her own.  This is because the seat is essentially acting as a crutch.  Your baby won’t be naturally strengthening and learning to use the correct muscles to support himself/herself.  In a sense, you are creating lazy muscles in your baby.

Don’t Use It Too Long In One Sitting

I advise you not to sit your baby in the Bumbo more than 15-20 minutes at one time.  The same principle applies here as above: You don’t want to keep the “training wheels” on too long, or your baby will delay his/her ability to sit up on his/her own.

Don’t Leave Your Baby Unattended

This should really go without saying.  It is so important that you don’t leave baby unattended in the Bumbo.  It is not really a babysitter after all; it’s a baby seat!  Furthermore, because the bumbo is rather compact and light-weight, many parents have placed it atop tables or chairs with their babies in it.  Many injuries have occurred as a result of this kind of irresponsibility.

Useful, But Follow These Guidelines

Again, none of this is to say that you should not buy a Bumbo.  It’s just important, as with many baby toys and devices, that you follow the proper guidelines, and take responsibility.  Your baby’s best interest is top priority.
