Two Ways To Make A Sweater Vest
There are only two ways to make a sweater vest. The first will take a lot of time and skill, and involves a knitting pattern. The second way is a basic, no sew option, but it is not without risk.
For the knitters out there, there are loads of sweater vest patterns to choose from. There are a ton that are free online. I’ve even seen one with a Mario Brothers theme, advertised as the nerdiest of all sweater vests. You can easily customize the pattern, or just make a simple vest. This option is for those who have something in mind, like a gold sweater vest but just can’t find it. It is also great for those who just like to knit. Some of these projects will not require advanced skills, but will take a lot of time. The best thing to do is set aside some time every single day to work on it.
The second way is much less conventional, but if you are careful, you can get some great results. Sometimes, while browsing in a thrift store, you will find a sweater that you think will be a perfect sweater vest. A simple solution would be to cut off the sleeves. You do’t want to actually cut the fabric of the sleeves, and you want to be very careful about cutting the fabric of the body. Cutting into the body can cause the whole vest to unravel. Cut the yarn that holds the two together and undo the seam. You will then want to hem the armhole with thread that is about as thick as the yarn that was holding the sleeve on.
These are two ways to get a great, customized sweater vest. One will take a lot more work on your part. The other option does not give you the same freedom over the design, but paired with character shoes, it will look hot.
