Spooling A New Line On Ice Fishing Reels

Keeping ice fishing reels loaded with fresh fishing lines is of prime importance if you want to bring home a huge catch or if you want to bag in that trophy during an upcoming competition. Aside from this, doing so will also allow you to make fishing way easier as to the reason that will help you prevent twists and tangles on your reel. Now, if you have been avoiding this task for quite some time now, you really need to stop procrastinating if you want to further improve your fishing skills.

An ice fishing reel is basically considered as a very important part of your ice fishing equipment. The reason is pretty much obvious. You won’t be able to catch fish without this. The important thing to remember if you want to properly load your reel with a new line is that you must wrap it the latter in the same direction as the original setup that was done by the manufacturer.

To start the process of respooling, you must first get rid of the old line. If you are going to make use of a super line, you need to spool up about 10 yards of monofilament first so that you can prevent any slippage on the spool of your reel. After which, you can now tie your preferred super line to the monofilament. Always remember to pass the line through some of the guides of your rod. When spooling the mono, you can simply attach it on an empty spool. Next, take note of the direction as to how the reel will wrap the line.

Make sure to tailor your spool in the same direction as the factory spool. Once you get to determine the orientation of the factory spool, you can just simply place it aside and get the new spool. You can now proceed to reeling the new line. In doing so, make sure to hold your pole and add some friction to the line with your other hand. Remember that the new line should be wrapped around the reel for at least an eight of an inch from the top of your spool.
