Pastry Chef Regular Duties
Becoming a pastry chef and earning a high pastry chef salary is no easy task, it goes without saying a chef will have to have knowledge of pastry making and cooking. There can be many opportunities that open up to a chef if he or she gains the knowledge and experience to enter a restaurant, bakery or bistro. There are many other career opportunities open to you, its not just limited to making cakes and desserts, you may be able to open your own business or even become a food critic, who really knows where your skills can carry you. Being a pastry chef is a very demanding job, some chef’s have a hard time adjusting to the very long hours standing on one’s feet with little or no breaks. The days are long, on average you will be expected to work twelve to fourteen hours, the pastry chef is the first one at the bakery or restaurant and usually the last to leave.
Being an executive chef will include a lot more responsibilities and duties such as, overseeing all the kitchen staff and making sure that all their work is done correctly and quickly. The chef will address any complaints, oversee all food preparation and final dessert presentation, he will also plan meals in regards to the menu items matching the food items of that day. An executive chef handle a wide array of specific duties, some that might not even deal with cooking at all they could be all administrative such as ordering kitchen machinery or preparing a kitchen budget for the month. The pastry chef is a creative position, which allows them to develop new menu and dessert items, along with spending many hours perfecting existing recipes and making sure that they are perfect, this ensures that the pastry chef will earn a great pastry chef salary.
