Mens Wedding Rings – Moissanite
Just as mens wedding rings are here to stay, so are mens wedding rings with moissanite gemstones.
Available as a gemstone since the mid to late 1990s, moissanite is said to be taking the jewelry industry by storm. Since becoming available, moissanite is being seen as an exquisite alternative to diamond wedding rings.
Moissanite was discovered in 1893 by Henry Moissan while examining a meteorite in Canyon Diablo in Arizona. It does not occur naturally on earth but is found only in the remains of meteors. The crystals were too small to be considered of gemstone quality and it wasn’t until about 1976 that moissanite was synthesized in the laboratory.
Moissanite is so close to a diamond, all but the most experience jewelers can tell the difference and even then it has to be with specialized equipment.
Compared to diamonds, moissanite is said to have more fire, brilliance and sparkle than all but the best quality diamonds.
Moissanite does not fade, scratch, chip or change color. It is second in hardness to a diamond but not by much. And as mentioned, it has more brilliance than a diamond or any other of the more popular gemstones.
Moissanite quickly became a hit among women looking for a stunning engagement ring at a price less that the cost of a house. Mens moissanite wedding rings are fast becoming just as popular (well perhaps not quite – but getting there).
Because a man does not usually wear an engagement ring (although that is changing as well), their wedding ring may be their only piece of jewelry. Moissanite wedding rings for men catch the eye unlike a woman’s which is designed to accent the engagement ring – which is usually bigger.
I have heard that moissanite rings can be found in a list of gift basket ideas – a little too extravagant if you ask me.
