Is Jamorama What You’re Looking For?

If you want to learn to play the guitar, and are interested in online guitar lessons, you might already have heard about Jamorama. This is one of the most popular online courses around, and has lots of happy customers. However, it’s not the best option for everyone who’s just starting out. Here are some things to think about if you’re tempted to buy.

Firstly, Jamorama is a beginner’s course. It is most suitable for those who are either starting guitar from scratch, or who have a bit of experience, but who have a lot of areas where they need improvement. If you’re already a fairly advanced guitarist, you’ll probably find that Jamorama is a bit basic for your needs. The exception to this is if you’re already familiar with playing rhythm guitar, but not lead guitar – in this case, you’ll find the section of Jamorama that teaches lead guitar techniques to be useful, even if you already know the rhythm material.

Secondly, although it can be used in conjunction with lessons from a teacher, most people who use Jamorama are teaching themselves to play. Many great guitarists are self-taught, but if you want to succeed, you do need to have a lot of self-discipline, as it can be hard to keep going when the initial enthusiasm has worn off, and there’s no teacher there to encourage you. You also need to be very careful about developing the correct playing technique, as it’s easy to fall into bad habits that can cause problems later on.

Thirdly, Jamorama is great for those who want a grounding in the techniques that are needed for most popular guitar styles. However, it doesn’t cover more specialised techniques like classical or flamenco guitar playing, so if this is where your musical interests lie, it’s not a good choice for you.

So if you’re a beginner (or have a lot of room for improvement in your basic guitar skills) who wants to play rock or pop styles of music, and you’re highly motivated, Jamorama could be just what you’re looking for.
