Decorating with Black Wood Floors

Decorating with black wood floors really allows you to use materials that a lot of people have in their homes but get them in a totally new way. This can be contemporary or traditional depending on the furniture that you bring into the space.

You might want to bring in lighter fabric choices on your furniture. This doesn’t mean that you have to go with cream but if you do go with a lighter color sofa then this is instantly going to seem very modern and contemporary. You can also use black sofas or white couches. For a traditional room you can try to go with more of a taupe or tan kind of color.

Really how much wood grain is showing on your wood floors is really going to determine whether it seems very traditional or contemporary. If you want a modern kind of floor then you really are going to want to choose one that just has very minimal grain showing. It could almost look painted. If you want more of a traditional look then just go for an oak floor with a very dark stain to it. You can have some brown tones to it. This is going to give you a lot of options for the other furniture pieces that you bring into the room.

One thing that you want to be aware of is the rest of the wood furniture that you bring into the space. This doesn’t mean that it has to be black. It just needs to have enough contrast with the darker color that it’s not going to clash. This means that you should at least go with medium or lighter wood tones. Right now a painted wood floor kind of look is very popular. This has more of the distressed or glaze finish over top of it. The really great thing about this is it’s a black finish so you can still get a handpainted kind of effect but it’s going to give it a dramatic look to your space.
